Gill's Captaincy Receives Brutal Review After IPL Exit: "You Can't Drop..."

After Gujarat Titans' (GT) bowed out of IPL 2025 with a 20-run defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator, former India batter Robin Uthappa said the Shubman Gill-led side cannot expect to win the championship if they suffer catching lapses and suffer due to flaws in strategy. In New Chandigarh on Friday evening, GT dropped three important catches – two of which were of Rohit Sharma, who went on to make a dashing 50-ball 81. Suryakumar Yadav was also given a reprieve in the 12th over, as MI made 228/5. GT also got their middle overs enforcer Prasidh Krishna to bowl with the new ball, a tactic which backfired as Rohit and Jonny Bairstow came out all guns blazing in the powerplay. "GT's strategy was more reactive than proactive. Using Prasidh in the powerplay – despite his success in middle overs – was a misstep.”

“His first over was expensive, and they failed to course-correct. The 26-run and 22-run overs proved costly. On top of that, their fielding let them down. You can't drop that many catches and expect to win a championship," said Uthappa on JioHotstar.

Uthappa, who previously won IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, reflected on how Rohit made a calculated shift in his batting approach after being given two reprieves.

"After the early drop, Rohit flirted with danger briefly but quickly recognised the need to take control. He shifted gears, played responsibly, found the gaps, and built key partnerships. His composure stood out. When players like Rohit, Dhoni, or Kohli are at the crease, the pressure is on everyone else. Sai Sudharsan is starting to reach that level too."

With MI set to meet Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Uthappa stated he expects a fierce battle between the two teams. The winner of Qualifier 2 will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the title clash in Ahmedabad on June 3.

"Punjab are hurting and will come out firing. Mumbai, riding high on momentum, will bring intensity as well. It's set to be a blockbuster, one for the ages," he concluded.

Rohit Sharma Achieves Historic High In IPL, Becomes First Indian To...

Mumbai Indians seasoned opener Rohit Sharma crossed the 7000-run milestone in the cash-rich league, becoming just the second after his long-time compatriot Virat Kohli to achieve the feat. Rohit upped the ante during MI's pulsating Eliminator fixture against Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur. He notched a sizzling 81 from 50 deliveries to send the five-time champions into the driver's seat with a score of 228/5. Rohit, who averaged barely above 15 before his rollicking display, took his guard, gunned down his past nightmares to cross the 7000-run mark in the cash-rich league, and became the second batter to join the exclusive club.

Gujarat twice had the opportunity to rob Rohit of his landmark occasion and avoid being clobbered. On the penultimate delivery of the second over, Coetzee dropped a sitter off Prasidh Krishna, allowing Rohit to survive an early scare when he stood at three.

In the next over, Rohit gave away a faint edge off Mohammed Siraj, but Kusal Mendis couldn't collect the ball in his gloves and floored the opportunity. The 38-year-old never looked back and enjoyed his night riddled with fortune.

He decimated GT's ball tweakers to establish his authority. He unleashed a relentless onslaught on Sai Kishore and then smoked the ball into the stands to add to Rashid Khan's agony and cross the 7000-run landmark in the IPL in the 9th over.

Rohit's record-breaking night came to an end in the 17th over when he tried to take on Prasidh but got deceived by the slower variation and deposited the ball into Rashid Khan's hands. Following his exploits, Rohit has 7038 runs under his belt in 271 matches at 29.82, with two centuries and 47 fifties and a best score of 109*.

It was sixes galore for Rohit as he cleared the boundary rope four times with brute force. Rohit crossed the 300 sixes mark in the IPL and joined 'Universal Boss' Chris Gayle for the elusive feat. Rohit has 302 sixes to his name, behind Gayle's record-breaking tally of 357 and Virat Kohli trailing in the third spot with 291 maximums.

How Trump Administration Targeting Chinese Students Was Years In The Making

The United States' plans to “aggressively” revoke visas for Chinese students did not happen in a day. US President Donald Trump and his allies had been laying the groundwork for this since years.

In 2023, in a campaign trail, Trump vowed to ban “Christian-hating communists, Marxists and socialists” from the country, shut down China-funded Confucius Institutes on U.S. college campuses and even prosecute Chinese scientific researchers and professors working at US universities.

“The president laid it out there in the campaign… when he says he's going to do something in the campaign, he actually tries to do it,” said Ken Cuccinelli, who was Trump's deputy of Homeland Security during his first term, per a report by the Politico.

“The reason people like me raised it in the first term is the reason you're hearing from Rubio — there are very real security reasons to not help the Chinese advance their position in technical fields, and certainly not anyone more closely associated with [the Chinese Communist Party].”

The administration has China hawks who have been focussed on cracking down China's influence on US institutions.

About 277,000 Chinese students studied in the US last year, and Marco Rubio, Secretary of State has vowed to “aggressively revoke” the visas and said that they will focus on people with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or those studying sensitive subjects.

“The Secretary made this decision in the administration's ongoing effort to protect our homeland from espionage and other hostile actions,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

China has condemned the policy and termed it “unreasonable”, one that “damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students and disrupted the normal cultural exchanges between the two countries.” The policy further complicated ties between the countries which are already battling strained ties since Trump put a 145 per cent tariff on Chinese goods but ultimately reduced it to 30 per cent after a temporary agreement with China. Similarly China also reduced the tariffs on the US from 125 percent to 10 per cent.

This week the US curbed critical US technology sales to China, including software that is used to make semiconductors.

The visa revocations for Chinese students comes as the initial step in removing Chinese influence from the United States. Trump allies hope the next target will be funding for universities working with Chinese grad students.

Moreover, US immigration law bars members of the Communist Party from becoming naturalised citizens or green card holders, however, these rules do not apply to people in the United States on student or tourist visas.

“Those who come to enjoy our country must love our country,” Trump said. “We're going to keep foreign, Christian-hating communists, Marxists and socialists out of America.”

Legislation to limit Chinese nationals from obtaining visas for STEM-related studies had been introduced as early as 2020 by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) He applauded the administration's decision in a statement, saying “China's use of students to spy on political dissidents and American researchers is a well-documented national security threat.”

Rubio too had introduced a bill in 2021 targeting Chinese nationals in 2021. He pressured local colleges to shut down their Confucius Institutes when he represented Florida in the US Senate. He said in 2022, vocally opposing China, saying that it “is the most formidable near-peer adversary our nation has ever faced.”

Who Is Muhammad Sinwar, Hamas Chief In Gaza Declared Eliminated By Israel?

Muhammad Sinwar, the elusive Hamas military chief in Gaza who Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday had been eliminated, has long been at the top of Israel's most wanted list.

Sinwar was elevated to the top ranks of Hamas in 2024 after the death in combat of his brother Yahya, mastermind of the 2023 attack on Israel that led to the war in Gaza and later named as overall Hamas leader.

Hamas has yet to confirm Muhammad Sinwar's death, which would leave his close associate Izz al-Din Haddad, who currently oversees operations in northern Gaza, in charge of Hamas' armed wing across the whole of the enclave.

It is unclear how Muhammad Sinwar's death, if confirmed, would affect decision-making in the overall group -- for example whether his death would bolster or diminish the influence of exiled members of the group's leadership council in deciding policy in ceasefire negotiations.

Hamas officials describe Sinwar and Haddad as "ghosts" who have long outfoxed Israel's intelligence agencies.

Like his brother Yahya, Sinwar had survived many Israeli assassination attempts, including airstrikes and planted explosives, Hamas sources said.

When Sinwar once visited a cemetery, his comrades discovered that a remote-controlled explosive resembling a brick had been planted along his path, according to the Hamas sources.

In 2003, Hamas operatives discovered a bomb planted in the wall of Muhammad Sinwar's house, foiling an assassination attempt that the group blamed on Israeli intelligence.

Known for clandestine operations, Muhammad Sinwar played a central role in planning and executing Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, the country's worst security failure, Hamas sources said.

He was also widely believed to have been one of the masterminds of the 2006 cross-border attack and abduction of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Hamas held Shalit for five years before he was swapped for more than 1,000 Palestinians jailed by Israel.

Under the deal, his brother Yahya Sinwar, whose meticulous planning for the 2023 attack shattered Israel's reputation as an invincible power in a hostile region, was among those who were released.

REPUTATION AS A HARDLINER

Netanyahu has vowed to eradicate Hamas, and the offensive against Gaza by the Middle East's most sophisticated and advanced military has severely weakened the organisation.

But the group that was created during the first Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation in 1987 and which carried out suicide bombings that traumatized Israelis in the second one, is still standing.

Born on September 16, 1975, Sinwar has rarely appeared in public or spoken to the media.

Yahya Sinwar was killed in combat during a routine Israeli patrol in Gaza in 2024.

Israel released footage of a severely wounded Yahya Sinwar throwing a piece of wood at a hovering drone, his last act of defiance towards his old foe before his death and his brother's rise.

The Sinwars originally came from Asqalan - now the Israeli city of Ashkelon - and became refugees like hundreds of thousands of other Palestinians in what they call the Nakba, or catastrophe, during the birth of Israel during the 1948 war.

The family settled in Khan Younis in Gaza, which has been largely reduced to rubble in the latest war.

Muhammad Sinwar was educated in schools run by the UN Palestinian relief agency (UNRWA), which has long had tense relations with Israel, including during the current war in Gaza.

He joined Hamas shortly after its founding, influenced by his brother Yahya, a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood, the oldest and at one time most influential Islamist group in the Middle East.

His reputation as a hardliner helped him rise through the group's military ranks, and by 2005, he was leading Hamas's Khan Younis Brigade.

The unit, one of the largest and most powerful battalions in Hamas's armed wing, has been responsible for cross-border attacks, firing rockets and planting bombs along the frontier.

It also watches the movement of Israeli soldiers around the clock and in 2006, elite commandos led by Sinwar took part in Shalit's abduction.

Sources close to Hamas say Sinwar developed close ties with Marwan Issa, the deputy commander of Hamas's military wing, and Mahammed Deif, the aloof military chief assassinated by Israel.

Pant Said "No, We...": How LSG Withdrew Appeal Against RCB's Jitesh Sharma

In a rare moment of sportsmanship during a high-pressure IPL 2025 clash, Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant stunned fans and players alike by withdrawing an appeal for a non-striker's run-out against Jitesh Sharma. The RCB batter was out of his crease, and a dismissal could have changed the course of the match. But Pant, displaying remarkable maturity and intent, told the umpire, "No, we don't need this wicket." The moment has since gone viral, earning praise across the cricketing world, even as it didn't alter the third umpire's final "not out" decision.

The incident took place during the 17th over of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's chase of a 228-run target set by Lucknow Super Giants. Jitesh Sharma, who was in sublime touch with the bat, was at the non-striker's end when LSG leg-spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi attempted to run him out during his bowling stride.

The on-field umpires referred the decision upstairs, and replays clearly showed Jitesh out of his crease. He looked devastated, standing beside the umpire in disbelief. But then came the twist.

As the third umpire was reviewing the footage, Rishabh Pant and Avesh Khan were seen walking over to the officials, signaling their decision to withdraw the appeal. "Not out because Rishabh said no, we don't need this wicket even though Jitesh was out of his crease," former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta explained during the post-match show. "Rishabh said, 'No, we withdraw the appeal'."

Jitesh's reaction said it all. Overwhelmed by Pant's gesture, the batter walked up to the LSG captain and pulled him in for a hug, visibly emotional and grateful for the decision.

.

However, in a crucial clarification, the third umpire ruled Jitesh not out, not because of Pant's withdrawal but due to the technicalities of the law. According to MCC Laws, a bowler isn't allowed to attempt a non-striker's run-out after he has completed the bowling action or has already stepped outside the popping crease. Since these pre-requisites weren't fulfilled, the third umpire would've eventually ruled Jitesh not-out.

So, even if Pant hadn't intervened, the third umpire would still have ruled Jitesh not out. But the gesture still stood out, not as a technical necessity, but as an example of sportsmanship in a fiercely competitive tournament.

Jitesh went on to remain unbeaten on a blistering 85 off just 33 balls. His knock ensured RCB chased down the daunting target with eight balls to spare, finishing the match in 18.4 overs. The win propelled RCB to second place in the points table, setting them up for a clash against Punjab Kings in the first Qualifier.

While RCB took home the points, it was Pant's decision to uphold the spirit of the game that remained the talking point of the night. In a tournament known for intense rivalries and tight finishes, such moments remind us why we love this sport.

As India And Pakistan Hire Trump Aides As Lobbyists, A Look At Who They Are

In the midst of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor counter-terror operation, both countries have taken a strategic approach to influence policy in their favour by hiring prominent figures from US President Donald Trump's inner circle as lobbyists in Washington DC.

India has enlisted Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Trump, to represent its interests in the US capital. Miller's firm, SHW Partners LLC, will receive $1.8 million annually to provide strategic counsel, tactical planning, and government relations assistance.

Miller's role extends beyond traditional lobbying, having served as an informal liaison briefing Trump and members of Congress on India's counter-terrorism strategy. Notably, Miller understands how Trump's brain functions, which could help India's diplomacy significantly. "This is not a new practice," said Randhir Jaiswal, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs. "This has been in place for several decades and under successive governments since the 1950s."

Meanwhile, Pakistan has hired Keith Schiller, Trump's former bodyguard and close aide, to build "long-term economic partnerships" in the US. Schiller's role involves strengthening Pakistan's ties with the US government and private sector.

Schiller, a former NYPD officer, rose through Trump's ranks to become Director of Oval Office Operations during the Trump presidency. He has been described as "one of Trump's most loyal and trusted aides" and "a constant presence at Trump's side for nearly two decades". Schiller is joined by Georges Sorel, former compliance chief at the Trump Organisation, who co-founded Javelin Advisors. Their firm will help Pakistan communicate its perspective to America's executive branch, Congress, and the general public.

The hiring of these lobbyists comes after Trump's unexpected announcement of an India-Pakistan ceasefire on May 10, and his offer to mediate the Kashmir issue, which New Delhi promptly rejected. With the US historically financing Pakistan as a strategic buffer against the Soviet Union and for its war on terror, both India and Pakistan recognise the importance of having their own representative in Washington DC.

Pakistan aims to secure investments for its mining sector, including from US companies, while India seeks to bolster its diplomatic outreach to the Trump administration.

Kohli Achieves Historic Highs, Becomes 1st Ever Batter In IPL History To...

Virat Kohli has made history for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025. Playing against Lucknow Super Giants, Virat Kohli reached 9000 runs for RCB when he reached the score of 24. The former Indian cricket team captain is the first player to do so. He also slammed a half-century in 27 balls. Kohli achieved another big feat. Kohi is now the first batter to cross 600 five times in IPL. Virat is RCB's highest-ever run-getter in history, combining statistics from IPL and now-defunct Champions League T20. Kohli ultimately fell on 54.

Most runs for a team in Men's T20s
9004 - Virat Kohli for RCB
6060 - Rohit Sharma for MI
5934 - James Vince for Hampshire
5528 - Suresh Raina for CSK
5314 - MS Dhoni for CSK

600-plus aggregate in an IPL edition most often
5 - Virat Kohli (2013, 2016, 2023, 2024, 2025)
4 - KL Rahul (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022)
3 - Chris Gayle (2011, 2012, 2013)
3 - David Warner (2016, 2017, 2019)

Before Tuesday's match, in 279 matches and 270 innings, he has scored 8,970 runs at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 133.49. He has scored eight centuries and 64 fifties. His best score is 113*.

He is the highest run-getter in IPL history, with 8,552 runs in 264 matches and 256 innings at an average of 39.59, with eight centuries and 62 fifties. His best score is 113*.

In 15 matches for RCB in CLT20, he has made 424 runs at an average of 38.54 and a strike rate of 150.35, with two half-centuries. His best score is 84*. He is the franchise's top run-getter in the competition.

Virat has been sensational this season, top-scoring for the franchise with 548 runs in 12 innings at an average of 60.88 and a strike rate of 145.35. He has scored seven fifties, with the best score of 73*. He is the sixth-highest run-getter in the tournament currently.

Rishabh Pant produced his best batting of the season in the last league match, scoring a scintillating unbeaten century to propel Lucknow Super Giants to 226/3 in 20 overs in Match 70 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Ekana Stadium here on Tuesday. Pant, who has struggled throughout the season, moving up and down the order but managing only one half-century, found his mojo in the last match and put up a brilliant display of power-hitting as he hammered his second century in IPL history to help LSG set the biggest chase ever at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The previous highest chase here is 206 and RCB will not have to set a new record for the venue if they have to win this match.

Pant remained unbeaten on 118 off 61 balls while Mitchell Marsh continued with his superb form for the season with 67 off 37 balls as LSG reached a massive total.

RCB, who need to win this match to finish among the top two and secure a place in Qualifier 1, faltered with their team selection, leaving out skipper Rajat Patidar on the bench.

Asked to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants were off to a poor start as debutant Matthew Breetzke (14 off 12, 1x4, 1x6), who was struck on his head by Nuwan Thushara, departed with 25 runs on the board, Thushara castling him with a beauty. However, skipper Rishabh Pant showed a welcome return to form in their last match of the season as he joined Mitchell Marsh in raising 142 runs for the second wicket, propelling the side towards a huge total.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), needing to win the match to finish among the top two, looked a bit off-colour on the field as their bowlers proved a bit ineffective against Pant and Marsh.

Pant looked in his element as he started with a 2,6,2,4,0,4 blitz against Yash Dayal in the fourth over and went from strength to strength from there as LSG reached 55/1 in the power-play.

Pant continued to flourish with a six and four off successive balls against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the fifth over, a six followed by two fours in the 10th off Suyash Sharma, and a four and six off successive balls against the same bowler in the 10th as he raced to his half-century in 29 balls.

Marsh, who has been the top scorer for LSG this season, was equally good at the other end as he raced past the 600-run mark for the season, scoring his half-century in 31 balls as they reached the 150-run mark in their partnership in 85 balls.

Desperate to stem the run flow, RCB skipper Jitesh Sharma brought Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack but Marsh treated his return with sixes off successive balls -- the first over the bowler's head, while the second was a loft off a fullish delivery bowled wide, went high into the sky but landed way beyond the long-off boundary. However, the bowler had the last laugh as he induced an outside edge on a scrambled seam delivery that landed full on sixth stump. Marsh attempted a loft again but edged it behind. He was out for 67 off 37 balls studded with four fours and five sixes.

Pant continued to thrive and reached his second century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in seven years as he blasted boundaries at will, reaching the three-figure mark off 54 balls.

Pant showcased his best in the final match of the season, He didn't have any pressure as his team was out of the race and was playing for pride. Pant batted freely and was also helped by some innocuous bowling by the RCB bowling unit.

Pant hammered 11 boundaries and eight maximums for an unbeaten 118 off 61 balls, batting in the third and fourth gear throughout the match. Nicholas Pooran scored 13 off 10 balls and was out in the final over as LSG set up the biggest chase for RCB.

NDTV Explains: India vs China In Race For Arctic Oil, Gas, Shipping Routes

Welcome to the Arctic Circle.

The race to 'conquer' the world's final frontier is gathering steam and India is gently but firmly positioning itself in that contest, one which China has also entered and which has been given added urgency by Russian military actions in 2014 (the Crimean War) and 2022 (invasion of Ukraine).

The 'rewards' are staggering though - from oil and minerals to drinking water, from access to faster shipping routes to a possibly decisive upper hand in the global geopolitical and military arena.

A remote and largely inhospitable region of the world, the Arctic has emerged as the next global geopolitical and geostrategic hotspot, possibly even the next battlefield, thanks to climate change and the warming of polar ice caps. But its strategic importance has never really been in doubt.

It has, for the most part, been a question of access, specifically terrain so bleak it made extracting oil and other natural resources, navigating the waters, or maintaining military bases near-impossible.

Where is the Arctic?

What we identify as the Arctic is the northernmost region of our planet. The common definition is that area within the Arctic Circle, a line of latitude about 66.5 degrees north of the Equator.

Within this area are the Arctic Ocean and the polar ice caps, and over four million people from eight countries - the United States, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

Eight nations with territories inside the Arctic Circle form the Council.

There are also an estimated 500,000 people from indigenous tribal communities.

Together, these countries and communities inside the Arctic make up the Arctic Council and "carry the role as stewards of the region", and whom India has been 'engaging' for several years.

In 2013 India was made an 'observer nation' of the Council.

What is in the Arctic?

Compressed into approximately 14.5 million square kilometres, the Arctic holds 13 per cent of the world's undiscovered oil and 30 per cent of all undiscovered natural gas stores.

That amounts to 90 billion barrels of oil, 1,670 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and 44 billion barrels of natural gas liquids, which are hydrocarbons extracted from natural gas or crude oil.re

Dark blue regions have at least one undiscovered oil and/or gas field.

It also contains vast reserves of coal, iron, copper, zinc, nickel, bauxite, diamonds, and sulphides, and also millions of tons of phosphate used to make fertilisers.

The Arctic also holds an estimated 20 of the world's freshwater reserves, which is a commodity that could well become more valuable than any other in the not-too-distant future.

There is gold too; the Fort Knox Gold Mine in Alaska is one of the largest in the world.

And Arctic shipping routes could allow maritime trade to cut down on 8,000 km as they ferry the estimated billions of tons of cargo shipped annually between the Europe and Asia.

Why is the Arctic important now

Because it is melting, at a rate nearly four times faster than anywhere else in the world

Ice levels in September 2017, for example, was 25 per cent smaller than end-of-summer averages from 1981 to 2010, and has been melting at an unprecedented rate - over 12 per cent per decade.

Global warming means the Arctic's ice caps and the vast stretches of frozen ice that otherwise make it impossible for most ships to pass - certainly not without an ice-breaker plowing a path.

Melting polar ice caps are an existential crisis for humanity; rising sea levels will flood coastal cities and low-lying areas, including Bangkok, Amsterdam, Ho Chi Minh City, and even parts of London.

But they open the door to begin extracting those billions of barrels of oil, a treasure trove countries doing the extraction, for example, could use to reduce dependence on West Asian suppliers.

It also opens the door to millions of tons of coal and precious metals under the ice.

An icebreaker is a special-purpose ship or boat that navigates through ice-covered waters (File).

Overall, the melting of the ice caps has woken the world to the natural resources and strategic importance of the Arctic, both of which interest countries beyond the Council, including India.

In fact, in May 2025, the Observer Research Foundation and the Arctic Circle, a 60-nation "network of international dialogue and cooperation" met in Delhi to discuss Asia's involvement in Arctic affairs.

India v China for the Arctic

Back in 2018, China's first Arctic Policy spoke of a "mutually beneficial polar partnership", which would have included linking its Belt Road Initiative to the Northern Sea Route to create the 'Polar Silk Route'.

The resulting passageway, Beijing said, would shorten maritime travel time to Europe by 40 per cent.

The longer route, in use now, sees Chinese ships sail down south, through the Malacca Strait (between the Malay Peninsula and Indonesia, a chokepoint that allows the Indian Navy to monitor maritime traffic off its coastline), across the Indian Ocean, and then back up through the Suez Canal.

Since then, i.e., since articulating its Arctic Policy, China has been called itself as a 'near-Arctic state', and has sought a seat at the Arctic Council, something that is not likely to be granted.

However, Beijing too was given 'observer nation' status.

For China the Arctic quest is more about trade, really, than anything else.

As one of the world's largest manufacturers (of pretty much everything), it needs fast and reliable distribution routes, and ships are generally cost-effective compared to planes.

And the Malacca chokepoint isn't ideal, particularly if there should be military conflict with India.

Faster maritime trade is a big attraction for India too.

India's involvement with the Arctic dates back to 1920, when the Svalbard Treaty was signed in Paris. And today it is one of a handful of nations to have a permanent base in the Arctic.

Set up in 2008 and called 'Himadri', it is in the Norwegian territory of Svalbard, roughly 1,200km from the North Pole, and has provided field and laboratory support to scientists back home.

Unlike China, India is seen as slow-playing its Arctic card, choosing to cooperate with the Council and present itself as a 'responsible stakeholder' by engaging with all sides on key issues, including, for example, research into microbial organisms and hydropower generation.

India has good ties with Norway, for example, with which it has studied climate change, and also has a friendly relationship with both Russia and the United States.

All this, though, could change, particularly as China steps up designs on the Arctic, which includes the tried-and-tested method of pumping billions into ' infrastructure projects.

Beijing has reportedly bought real estate in Iceland, invested money in Greenland airports and bought into Russian projects, though they have been rebuffed by Norway, Sweden, and Finland.

Nevertheless, this has alarmed the West, and this has given India an opportunity, a chance to be the friendly and trustworthy face in the growing list of suitors for the Arctic Circle.

Girl, 15, Raped Repeatedly, Forced Into Prostitution In Maharashtra: Cops

A 15-year-old girl was confined in a house for two months, repeatedly raped, forced to undergo an abortion and was also made to indulge in prostitution by a man known to her family in Dombivali in Maharashtra's Thane district, a police official said on Sunday.

Four persons, including a woman, have been arrested, though the main accused is still at large, the official added.

The girl's ordeal came to light after some workers found out about it, following which Tilak Nagar police raided a house in a rural part of Dombivali and rescued her, the official said.

"The victim's mother sells food and she came in contact with the main accused, who sells spices and was known to her family. When she had a fight with her mother after her Class X exams and walked out of the house, the main accused cajoled her into coming with him," he said.

"He then confined her for two months and sexually assaulted her. When she got pregnant, he took her to another individual for an abortion. She was then kept at a couple's house, where she was forced into prostitution," the official said.

While the family was looking for her, the main accused misled them by saying he had seen the girl in the city but she was angry and would not return, the official said, adding her kin approached police only after two months.

After the survivor narrated her ordeal to police, four persons were arrested, including a woman and her husband. However, the main accused is on the run, the official said.

A case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 65(1) (rape in certain cases), 88 (causing miscarriage), 143 (trafficking of person), 144 (exploitation of trafficked person) as well as provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dombivli) Suhas Hemade told PTI.

Police teams are carrying out further probe into the crime, he added.

Sai Sudharsan's 1st Reaction On Maiden India Call-Up: "Don't Think I Am..."

Sai Sudharsan described his maiden Test call-up as "surreal" after being named in India's squad for the upcoming five-match Test series in England, as per ESPNcricinfo. "It obviously feels great. Feels very special to be honest, and surreal also. Any cricketer, any young cricketer who starts playing cricket, wants to play Test cricket, wants to play for the country," he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. "The ultimate goal is always to play Test cricket. So really happy for that," he added.

Following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Sudharsan is expected to be part of India's new-look top four. Though he typically opens the batting for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy, Sudharsan has expressed his readiness to bat in any position for the national team.

"Sir, I think playing for the country itself is a very big privilege for a cricketer. So I don't think I am in a position to choose where I want to play," Sai Sudharsan said.

"Wherever the coaches tell me to play, I think I will be mentally and obviously skillfully, you know, try and be ready for the opportunity," he added.

"I have a lot of likings. I think I will have to be ready for whichever (position) the team gives me. I will be ready for that," he noted.

Adding to the momentous occasion, his Test debut could come under the leadership of Shubman Gill, his captain at Gujarat Titans (GT), who has just been appointed India's new red-ball skipper.

"I mean, Shubhi (Shubman Gill) is, over the years, I have been a part of his growth as well," Sai Sudharsan said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.

"I have seen him for the last four years. Such a talented batsman, such a skillful batsman, anybody can see," he added.

"So I feel he will definitely do laurels and great things for the country and I am grateful and I am very happy to play under him in my first Test series," he noted.

The highly anticipated series begins on June 20, but both Sudharsan and Gill will first join the India A squad for the second four-day match against the England Lions, scheduled to start on June 6 in Northampton.

"I always feel finish the first story, then go to the next one because now the IPL is also most important when we are in IPL (Indian Premier League)," he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.

"So I think it is also most important of finishing this and then obviously we will have time to prepare. So I will use that bracket of days so that we will be ready for the Test series," he added.

For now, however, Sudharsan remains focused on the Indian Premier League, where Gujarat Titans have secured a spot in the knockout stage.

He also acknowledged the unique challenge of transitioning from the high-paced T20 format to the more demanding rhythms of Test cricket.

"Transitioning from white ball to red ball takes a bit of time," he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.

"I think I focus a lot more on my basics. I focus a lot more on my patience even outside the field," he added.

"The more patient you are, the more it reflects inside the field. So, Test cricket is all about patience and longevity. So I feel the more I focus on that, the more I be aware of it, I think it will be a great experience," he noted.

'KCR Is God, Surrounded By Some Devils': K Kavitha On Letter Leak

The internal differences within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi came to the fore on Friday with party MLC K Kavitha taking exception to the letter she wrote to her father and party president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) getting leaked.

She also said some conspiracies are being hatched in the party. KCR is like a god, but is surrounded by some devils, she claimed.

Speaking to reporters at the RGI airport here on Friday evening, after returning from the US, she wondered how an internal letter became public.

"Two weeks ago, I had written a letter to KCR ji. I had expressed my opinions to him earlier through letters. I had recently said that conspiracies are being hatched. The letter written by me internally to KCR ji became public. All of us in the party and the people of Telangana have to think about what is happening," she said.

She further said she had only expressed in her letter, after touring half of Telangana, what people are thinking and that she does not have any personal agenda.

Asked who is behind the conspiracy that she talked about, Ms Kavitha said: "KCR ji is a god. But, there are some devils around him. A lot of damage is being caused because of them. I am KCR's daughter. If the letter written by me internally became public, there should be a debate about the fate of others in the party," she said.

She regularly gives such feedback to the party supremo, Ms Kavitha added.

Referring to Congress and BJP leaders' comments on the BRS after the letter was leaked, Ms Kavitha asserted that Mr Rao is her leader and the party would flourish for long if the "small defects" are corrected and the leaders who covertly help other parties are removed, she said.

Alleging that both Congress and BJP have failed Telangana, she said KCR's leadership is the alternative.

The handwritten "feedback" letter written by Kavitha to her father KCR, highlighting both the negative and positive aspects of the party's recent public meeting at Warangal, has sparked discussions in Telangana's political circles.

"As you ( KCR) spoke for just two minutes, some people began speculating that there will be a tie-up with the BJP in future. I even felt that you should have spoken strongly (against the BJP). It might be because I suffered (because of the BJP). But you should have targeted the BJP some more, daddy," Kavitha said in the letter, written in Telugu and English.

The BRS celebrated its silver jubilee in Warangal on April 27.

Ms Kavitha cited Mr Rao's silence in the meeting on key issues such as 42 per cent reservation for backward classes, Scheduled Caste categorisation, Waqf Amendment Act, and omission of Urdu from his address as reasons for the negative feedback.

She said the Congress government has lost its support at the grassroots level, and some BRS cadres now view the BJP as a viable alternative.

She added that a strong signal was sent to party workers when the BRS chose not to contest the recent MLC elections, suggesting it might align with the BJP.

Schumacher Signs Helmet 12 Years After Accident. F1 Great On The Mend?

Michael Schumacher continues to remain an intriguing name in F1, even after remaining away from public eye for over a decade since a horrific skiing accident in December, 2013.  Since then, details about his health condition have been kept confidential. It has been reported in the past that Schumacher has been residing in Switzerland. Last year, former world champion Sebastian Vettel, who is close to Schumacher and his family, recently revealed that the F1 legend "is not doing well".

However, now a great news has emerged. According to a report in European media, Michael Schumacher signed a crash helmet last month with the help of his wife Corinna Schumacher. That helmet is to be auctioned for charity. The F1 great those world champions to contribute his signature for the noble cause. In all, 20 world champions have signed on the helmet.

Johnny Herbert, Schumacher's teammate at Benetton in 1994 and 1995, said the act was an 'emotional' moment.

"It's wonderful news that Michael Schumacher signed Jackie Stewart's helmet," Herbert told FastSlots.

'It was a wonderful moment. We haven't seen something emotional like this in years, and hopefully, it's a sign. Hopefully, Michael is on the mend. It's been a long, horrible journey for the family, and maybe we'll hopefully see him in the F1 paddock soon.

"Michael Schumacher making an appearance at an F1 race weekend would be one of those special moments from one of the greatest drivers we have ever seen.

"It would be so welcomed, not just from everyone in the paddock, but everyone around the world. Considering the awful situation he found himself in, and to battle back against it, it would be amazing.

"I hope we continue to hear this positive news more often."

Speaking to Mail Sport, Stewart said: 'It is wonderful that Michael could sign the helmet in this worthy cause - a disease for which there is no cure. His wife helped him, and it completed the set of every single champion still with us.'

"In The Nuclear Era....:" What UK Analyst Said On Operation Sindoor

The recent military action between India and Pakistan was the first instance of two nuclear weapon states engaging in continuous strikes and counter-strikes, which sparked global tensions, Dr Walter Ladwig, a professor at King's College London, said.

Mr Ladwig, who has written an analysis titled 'Calibrated Force: Operation Sindoor and the Future of Indian Deterrence' for security think tank Royal United Services Institute, also said India carried out the military action to punish the terrorists behind the Pahalgam terror attack and not provoke a "wider conflict" with Pakistan.

The Senior Lecturer in International Relations at King's College was speaking to NDTV when he made the remarks.

Mr Ladwig said Operation Sindoor demonstrated a range of abilities the Indian Air Force (IAF) has built over the last decade. "This might also mean that we are in a very undiscovered country when it comes to military operations. In the context of the nuclear era, we do not have an example of two nuclear arms states who have engaged in reciprocal airstrikes like this," he said.

"The year 2019 was a little bit of a watershed moment, and that was very calibrated and orchestrated," he said, referring to the Balakot airstrikes that were carried out in response to the Pulwama terror attack. "We don't have this. The Russians and the Chinese fought in the late 1960s, this was on the ground, and in some cases, the combators were worried about escalation. This is a really new space and this is going to be studied in the decades to come."

The professor credited the Indian government's policies for its precision strikes on terror infrastructure in the neighbouring country. "I see it as an evolution in the government's policies. If we go back to 2016, the surgical strikes (in response to the Uri terror attack), these sort of cross border raids have happened in the past but they were never publicised. They were never made so public. The 2019 airstrikes in Balakot were a break from past precedent... And now you have the next level, which is to say multiple targets are being struck in multiple rounds," he said.

On the intervening night of May 6 and 7, the IAF conducted a series of precision strikes and destroyed infrastructure in nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The act - codenamed Operation Sindoor - was in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists. The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based LeT terror group, claimed responsibility.

As Pakistan responded to the action, both nations engaged in strikes and counter-strikes for three nights. On May 10, India and Pakistan reached an agreement to stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea, with effect from 5pm.

Operation Sindoor "tried to change the equations that the onus is on the other side", Mr Ladwig said. "...the policy change of not feeling the need to assemble the dossier, connect the dots to say it is incumbent on India to prove in a courtroom sense or beyond the shadow of reasonable doubt that there are these connections... If you fail to deny them (terrorists) the space to operate, then that is enough. We will decide that we may take serious action," he said.

However, the analyst added, putting the onus on the other side does not mean India stops making efforts to put forward a credible case in front of the global audience. "The immediate aftermath of the (Pahalgam) terror attack saw solidarity pouring in for India. There were messages of understanding and support. In the present moment based on recent history, I think India has the benefit of the doubt from its partners but they shouldn't take that for granted,"  he said.

The professor also said that India's counter-strikes to Pakistan's attacks on the country, which lasted for three nights after Operation Sindoor, were essential to avoid doubts over its long-term goals.

"Operation Sindoor sought to inflict punishment on the terrorists and not provoke a conflict. Beyond that, once the tit for tat cycle began, there was a desire to show and demonstrate abilities to strike, do more than the ability to just hit terror infrastructure, and have the ability to show a degree of escalation. It raises questions otherwise as to why did the government stop when it did (Pakistan retaliated) and it gets back to what was the mission in the first place," he said.

He said India's showcase of its ability to retaliate will only lead to a "cat and mouse game". "After the strikes, the smart terrorists will go underground the moment something big happens. They will not be sitting around in known facilities, waiting for retaliation," he said.

"The ability to track and monitor and know precisely where the pin points are going to become harder because groups are going to spend a lot more time on concealment and covering their tracks, making it difficult for intelligence officials," he added.

Woman Who Avoided Sunlight To Prevent Tanning, Suffers Fractures In Bed

A 48-year-old woman in Chengdu, China, was so fearful of sunburn and tanning that she avoided sunlight for years, leading to severe osteoporosis. According to the South China Morning Post, her habit of wearing protective clothing and using sunscreen since childhood resulted in extremely low vitamin D levels. Consequently, her bones became fragile, and she fractured her ribs simply by turning in bed. According to medical staff, her bones were so weak that even simple movements could cause fractures.

The case was revealed by Dr. Long Shuang, an attending physician at XinDu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine's emergency department. Dr. Long shared that the woman's extreme sun avoidance began in childhood, driven by China's beauty standards that often prioritise fair skin.

It's uncertain whether she or her family ever raised concerns about her extreme sun-avoidance habits, but the consequences became severe after her injury. After her hospital admission, tests showed critically low vitamin D levels, which had hastened bone resorption and caused severe osteoporosis.

Notably, sunlight is crucial for vitamin D synthesis, essential for bone health and calcium absorption. Prolonged sun avoidance can lead to weakened bones and reduced immunity.

Health Risks of Excessive Sun Avoidance:

In China, extreme sun protection trends are on the rise, with women using elaborate gear like visors, gloves, and UV-blocking clothing to shield themselves from the sun. However, experts are now warning that this excessive sun avoidance could lead to health risks.

Jiang Xiaobing, Chief Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, warned about the dangers of excessive sun avoidance in an online video.

"It is now common to see people fully covered from head to toe for sun protection – this is indeed unhealthy. All the bones in our body regenerate every 10 years, but from age 30, we begin to lose bone mass at a rate of 0.5 to 1 per cent per year. Low calcium intake, lack of sun exposure, and vitamin D deficiency all hinder calcium absorption. A sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and excessive drinking also compromise bone health," he said.

"We need to ensure adequate calcium intake, exercise regularly, and limit smoking and drinking. For instance, no more than two cans of beer per day if the alcohol content is five per cent. Menopausal women, in particular, should be exceptionally cautious," he added.

'Near-Death Experience': Trinamool MPs' Team On IndiGo Plane Caught In Storm

TMC leader Sagarika Ghose, who was on the turbulence-hit Indigo flight bound for Srinagar Wednesday, termed it a "near-death experience."

A five-member delegation of Trinamool Congress comprising Derek O'Brien, Nadimul Haque, Sagarika Ghose, Manas Bhunia, and Mamata Thakur, was on the Srinagar-bound flight that experienced turbulence due to inclement weather.

The jolts prompted the pilot to report an "emergency" to air traffic control at Srinagar.

"It was a near-death experience. I thought my life was over. People were screaming, praying and panicking," Ms Ghose said.

"Hats off to the pilot who brought us through that. When we landed we saw the nose of the plane had blown up," she said, adding, the delegation thanked the pilot after the landing.

The aircraft with 200 people onboard landed safely in Srinagar.

Videos of the moments of turbulence emerged on social media showing panicked passengers praying for their lives as the plane swayed.

The TMC delegation will be in Jammu and Kashmir till May 23 and visit Poonch and Rajouri, besides Srinagar.

The party has said the delegation is there to express solidarity with the people affected by cross-border attacks, and share the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones.

IndiGo's Statement

In a statement, the airline said: "IndiGo flight 6E 2142 operating from Delhi to Srinagar encountered sudden hailstorm en route. The flight and cabin crew followed established protocol and the aircraft landed safely in Srinagar."

It added: "The airport team attended to the customers after arrival of aircraft prioritizing their wellbeing and comfort. The aircraft will be released post necessary inspection and maintenance."

"Learning 200 Words Difficult?" Mohandas Pai On SBI Manager's Kannada Snub

Former Infosys director TV Mohandas Pai slammed an SBI branch manager in Karnataka for refusing to communicate in Kannada with local customers. Mr Pai called the manager's behaviour "very, very wrong", arguing that businesses should serve local customers in a language they understand. He further emphasised that learning basic Kannada phrases is a matter of respect. He further emphasised that the expectation wasn't for bank staff to become fluent in Kannada, but rather to learn basic phrases to communicate respectfully with local customers.

Mr Pai's comments sparked a debate online, with some agreeing that service providers should make an effort to communicate in local languages.

"You are very, very wrong. Every business must serve its local customers in a language they understand. This is not the British Raj again. This is a service business. Learning to say 200 words to converse is difficult? Nobody is asking anyone to read and write, but to converse, learn a few words to show respect to your customers. They are customers, not your captives or subjects. Thus arrogance is very,y very wrong, " Mr Pai wrote on X in response to a user.

See the tweet here:

Mr Pai's strong-worded tweet was in response to X user Tushar Gupa, who defended the manager, stating it's the "State Bank of India, not the State Bank of Karnataka." He further wrote, "This business of 'learn the local language to work in the state' cannot be allowed. We are Indians first. We'll always be Indians first. The Constitution has no such condition. Let's not encourage this madness."

The Kannada Row

A recent controversy erupted in Karnataka when a State Bank of India (SBI) branch manager in Surya Nagar, Anekal Taluk, was recorded refusing to speak Kannada with a customer, insisting on Hindi instead. The viral video, showing the manager saying, "I will never speak Kannada… This is India," sparked widespread outrage.

The video drew widespread outrage from Kannada-speaking citizens and pro-Kannada groups, who demanded action against the bank employee. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also condemned the behaviour as "strongly condemnable," emphasising the need for bank staff to respect local languages. Following the public backlash, the manager issued an on-camera apology. Meanwhile, SBI transferred the manager overnight and issued a statement affirming its zero-tolerance policy toward behaviour affecting customer sentiment.

To SBI Manager's "This Is India" Remark, Customer's "Kannada First" Reply

An SBI Bank Manager in Bengaluru refused to speak in Kannada, Karnataka's official language, as a customer kept insisting and reminding her that "this is Karnataka", sparking the language row.

The incident, the video of which is now in wide circulation, was reported from Chandapura, a suburb in south of Bengaluru.

Here's how the conversation between the bank official and the customer went:

Customer: Wait a second, this is Karnataka.
Bank Manager: You have not given me employment.
Customer: This is Karnataka, madam.
Bank Manager: So? This is India.
Customer: Kannada first, madam.
Bank Manager: I will not speak Kannada for you.

The man did not give up: demanding that the officer speak in Kannada.

Customer: So you will never speak Kannada?
Bank Manager: No. I will speak Hindi.

The two kept going at each other for a few minutes, with neither party yielding.

Bank Manager: Hindi
Customer: Kannada
Bank Manager: Hindi
Customer: Kannada

The conversation was stuck with the two people refusing to speak in the language the other wanted.

"Madam this is Karnataka, you should speak Kannada. It's not about the chairman, there is an RBI rule that in that particular state you must speak the respective language," said the man, reminding the officer.

"I will never speak Kannada," declared the Bank Manager, ending the conversation.

"Super, madam, super," the customer shot back sarcastically.

The man, who kept recording the exchange between them, urged people to teach this bank a lesson.

"Viewers, this is the SBI branch in Chandapura, you should all teach a lesson to this branch, we should all be united," he said.

Pro-Kannada activist groups, which are up in arms over the incident, will stage a protest tomorrow.

They are planning to march to the SBI main branch and submit a memorandum in this regard.

In YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's Diary, Takeaways From Her 10 Days In Pakistan

YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who has several videos on her social media handles detailing her trips to Pakistan, has been hitting headlines for all the wrong reasons. The 33-year-old has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan and is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau. Now, two pages of her diary have emerged, which give a glimpse of her 10 days in Pakistan. The diary was recovered by the Haryana Police.

"Today, I have returned to my country, India, after a 10-day trip from Pakistan. During this time, I received a lot of love from the people of Pakistan. Our subscribers and friends also came to meet us. The two days we got to visit Lahore were not enough," read the undated entry.

Using adjectives "crazy and colourful" for Pakistan, she said her experience there can't be described in words.

One of her entries had a request to the Pakistani authorities, "Protect the temples there and let Indians meet their families from whom they were separated in 1947".

The content creator from Haryana, who ran the YouTube channel 'Travel with Jo', was arrested on May 16 and charged under the relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Jyoti Malhotra was among 12 people who were arrested from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the past two weeks on charges of espionage, with investigators pointing at an alleged Pakistan-linked spy network operating in northern India.

The YouTuber's financial transactions and travel details are also under the probe agency scanner. Earlier, police said her known sources of income did not justify her foreign travels.

A forensic analysis of Jyoti's laptop is underway, the police said, adding that they would also question those who were in touch with the YouTuber.

During the investigation, her link to a Pakistani official posted in the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi surfaced. She was allegedly in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahum alias Danish whom she first met in 2023 during her visit to the Pakistan High Commission, where she went for a visa to visit the neighbouring country. Ehsan-ur-Rahum was expelled on May 13 for "engaging in activities incompatible with his privileged status".

Earlier, Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan said that the YouTuber was being developed as an "asset" by Pakistani intelligence operatives.

"This is modern warfare that is not just fought on the borders. We came across a new modus operandi wherein PIOs were trying to recruit some social media influencers," he said.

The officer also said Jyoti went to Kashmir before the Pahalgam attack and visited Pakistan before that, and police are trying to establish the "links" between these visits.

LSG Star, Who Was Fined By BCCI, In Heated Spat With Abhishek. Reason Is...

Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi, who was fined by BCCI over his controversial celebration, got into a heated spat with Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma during their IPL 2025 match on Monday. The incident took place on the 8th over of the SRH innings after Abhishek was caught in the deep for 59. The youngster looked in sublime form as he slammed 59 off 20 deliveries but he ended up gifting an easy catch to Shardul Thakur. Following the dismissal, Digvesh did his customary book-signature celebration but Abhishek was not happy as the duo got into a war of words. Replays showed that Digvesh gestured towards Abhishek after the dismissal and that could have flared tempers.

Earlier, openers Mitchell Marsh (65) and Aiden Markram (61) hit fifties as Lucknow Super Giants set a 206-run target against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL clash on Monday.

Marsh and Markram were in top form to put on 115 runs inside the first half but LSG lost their momentum in the second during which Eshan Malinga bowled an impressive spell of 4-0-28-0.

While LSG skipper Rishabh Pant (7) endured yet another poor outing, Nicholas Pooran (45) did well to help his side post 205/7.

Markram, Marsh and Pooran have also scored more than 400 runs in IPL 2025, making LSG the first team to have three overseas batters crossing the mark in the same season.

Marsh is the 10th-highest run-getter this season, with 443 runs in 11 innings at an average of 40.27 and a strike rate of above 157. He has five fifties, with the best score of 81.

Markram is the 12th highest run-getter this season, with 409 runs in 12 innings at an average of 34.08, with a strike rate of 148.72. He has scored five fifties, with the best score of 66.

Pooran, who played a fine hand of 45 in 26 balls, with six fours and a six at a strike rate of 173.08, is the team's top run-getter. He is the ninth-highest run-getter with 455 runs in 12 innings at an average of 41.36, with four fifties in the tournament and the best score of 87*. His runs have come at a strike rate of 197.82.

IPL Playoff Scenarios Explained For All Teams: GT Through, MI And RCB...

Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs with a comprehensive victory over Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Thanks to the result, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings also booked their spot in the Top 4. All three teams are also in the run for the Top 2 spots which will guarantee them two chances to reach the final. Coming to the match, KL Rahul's ton went in vain as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan produced stunning knocks to clinch the win for GT.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs with their win over Delhi Capitals. With 2 matches remaining, GT can reach a maximum of 22 points and the Shubman Gill-led side is one of the favourties to finish in the Top 2 after the group stage.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

GT's win over DC also meant that RCB are through to the playoffs. They can reach a maximum of 21 points if they win the two remaining matches and can finish in the Top 2 if GT lose one match.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Punjab Kings

PBKS also qualified for the playoffs and if they win their next two matches, the Shreyas Iyer-led side can finish in the Top 2 if RCB or GT lose one match.

Mumbai Indians

MI will have to win all of their remaining two matches in order to finish in the Top 4. Two wins will take them to 18 points and their strong Net Run Rate (NRR) can prove to be extremely important.

Delhi Capitals

The loss against GT mean DC will now have to win both of their remaining two matches. However, that will take them to 17 points and their qualification may come down to NRR and other results.

Lucknow Super Giants

LSG face the toughest task when it comes to IPL 2025 playoff qualification. They will have to win their three remaining matches and hope for other results to go their way. Three wins will take LSG's points tally to 16 and it will most certainly come down to Net Run Rate (NRR).

Shreyas' Big Act Goes Viral After Getting Subbed Out During RR vs PBKS Game

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer was subbed off at innings break during the IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. Shreyas, who was suffering from a finger injury, was subbed off after scoring 30 off 25 deliveries, did not field at all during PBKS' bowling. While Shreyas was not on the field, that did not stop the Indian cricket team batter from getting involved. During the match, he was seen having a conversation with fielders at the boundary line and even helping stand-in skipper Shashank Singh with the field set-up. PBKS ended up winning the encounter by 10 runs.

Left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar bowled a match-turning spell after Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh made bruising fifties as Punjab Kings edged closer to an IPL playoff berth with a 10-run win over Rajasthan Royals here on Sunday.

Brar, who came in as a substitute for skipper Shreyas Iyer -- possibly unwell due to extreme heat -- was introduced in the fifth over and the left-arm spinner walked away with an impressive 3/22 in four overs, helping PBKS to restrict RR to 209/7 in the chase of 220.

The Punjab side had earlier made 219 for five riding on an unbeaten on 59 off 30 deliveries (5x4, 3x6) by Shashank and Wadhera (70, 37b, 5x4, 5x6).

With this win, PBKS (NRR: +0.38) climbed to 17 points and they are second on the table behind leaders Royal Challengers Bengaluru (17 points, +0.48) on net run rate difference.

The Ricky Ponting-coached side needs just one more point to secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2014.

Brar, who mixed up his angles, trajectory, and pace with precision, played a big part in that.

His scalps included the 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi (40 off 15; 4x4, 4x6) and Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had launched a brutal assault up front with his (50 off 24).

Together they flew off the blocks with a stand off 76 runs in just 4.1 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai (2/44) then landed a double blow, sending back skipper Sanju Samson (20 off 16) and Shimron Hetmyer (11 off 12), as RR's chase lost steam.

Dhruv Jurel (53 off 31 balls; 3x4, 4x6) hit form to score his second fifty of the season but it went in vain as Marco Jansen (2/41 in three overs) removed him and Wanindu Hasaranga in successive balls in the last over to end their chase.
