Ashok Gehlot's "Cops Should Ask Amit Shah" Retort To "Frame Modi" Comment

Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has dared Home Minister Amit Shah to name the officers of a central agency who the BJP leader alleged had put pressure on him to frame his party colleague and the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a fake encounter case.

Mr Gehlot said if the Delhi Police can ask Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to give details of women in Jammu and Kashmir who have alleged sexual harassment, the same cops can surely ask Mr Shah to give the names of the officers who wanted him to frame Narendra Modi before he became Prime Minister in 2014.

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Mr Gandhi had alleged  "women were still being sexually assaulted" in the Union Territory. After the yatra ended and 45 days later, a Delhi Police team knocked on Mr Gandhi's doors thrice in five days, which the Congress termed unprecedented harassment. The Congress alleged the cops won't do any such thing if BJP leaders gave controversial comments at public events.

"What did the women tell Rahul Gandhi in Kashmir? That they have been abused, harassed. And what happened after that - Delhi police arrived at Rahul Gandhi's door. Rahul said he will respond to the cops' notice, but the police again arrived at his home," Mr Gehlot told NDTV.

"So will the Delhi police also send a notice to Amit Shah for saying that the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) was putting pressure on him to frame Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an alleged fake encounter case in Gujarat when he was being questioned by the probe agency during the Congress-led UPA government. That's why I am asking, will the Delhi Police question Amit Shah like they questioned Rahul Gandhi? I think they should," Mr Gehlot said.

Mr Shah yesterday at the 'News 18 Rising India' programme alleged the CBI had put pressure on him to frame PM Modi in a fake encounter case in Gujarat back when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was in power. The Home Minister was replying to a question on the opposition's allegations that central agencies have been sent to harass them frequently with false cases.

"The CBI put pressure on me to frame Modi ji (when he was Gujarat Chief Minister) in a fake encounter case during the Congress government," Mr Shah said.

The BJP has also often cited alleged misuse of central agencies when the Congress was in power.

Student Writes Songs In Answer Sheet, Teacher Leaves Hilarious Remark

In exams all across the world, leaving the answer sheet blank or with incorrect answers is frequent, but one odd occurrence that people have only noticed in India is writing film songs in the answer sheets. A recent video of a student's answer sheet from Chandigarh University went viral because of the humorous answers the student penned in response to the subject questions.

The student just wrote three answers, and two of them were Hindi film songs. The first answer was a song, "Give Me Some Sunshine; Give Me Some Rain; Give Me Another Chance; I Wanna Grow Up Once Again", from the film 3 Idiots.

The second answer was a message to the teacher that the student wrote: "Ma'am, you are a brilliant teacher. It's my fault that I am not able to do the hard work. God, give me some talent.

The third answer was again a song from the Hindi film PK, "Bhagwan Hai Kahan Re Tu."

Watch the video here:

The very funny answer sheet left everyone smiling, but one thing that was outstanding was the remarks of the answer sheet checker. The teacher wrote that "you should also write more answers (#songs)."

The teacher wrote this because the student only provided three answers to all the questions.

The video was posted with a text that read, "The teacher passed the vibe check."

Watch: On 'Viral' Delivery, Neesham's "Worst Ball To Get A Wicket" Verdict

During a National T20 Cup match in 2019, Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Ilyas served up a strong contender for the worst wicket-taking delivery in the history of the sport. Ilyas dragged a delivery way down the leg-side and the unfortunate batter, Zain Abbas, fell for the pie-ball. While Ilyas' delivery was threatening to land outside the tramline, Abbas had a one-handed poke at it and got a top edge, which fled straight to the keeper, who made no mistake and grabbed the delivery.

The video of the incident has been doing rounds on social media. Reacting to the same, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham reacted to the video by saying: "Legitimately could be the worst ball in cricket history to ever get a wicket. Impressive."

Speaking of Neesham, the 32-year-old was last seen in action during the recently-concluded season of the Pakistan Super League.

Neesham has falled out-of-favour in the New Zealand side and also went unsold during the IPL mini auction last season.

During IPL 2022, Neesham was part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) squad, playing a handful of games in their road to the final.

RR entered the final of IPL in 2022, after a gap of 14 years only to lose to newbies Gujarat Titans.

RR will be looking to go a step further this time and win the trophy after adding the likes of Joe Root and Adam Zampa, alongside Windies star Holder.

RR will play their opening game against the SunRisers Hyderabad on Sunday, April 2.

"Right Now There Is Only One": Jonty Rhodes Picks 'World's Best Fielder'

Former South Africa player and star fielder Jonty Rhodes has picked the world's best fielder and it is none other than India's Ravindra Jadeja. While his all-round abilities with the bat and the bowl are just amazing, Jadeja is a gun fielder and stands out from the crowd in that domain. From pulling off breathtaking catches to effecting some sensational and crucial run-outs in the game, the star all-rounder has impressed one and all with his fielding on the ground. Jadeja rarely has have an off day in that beat.

When asked about the top three fielders in world cricket, Rhodes took only one name.

"Right now there is only one - Ravindra Jadeja," said the former South Africa star to Times of India in an interview.

Meanwhile, Rhodes credited the Indian Premier League for raising the standard of fielding.

The mega event started in the year 2008. So far, 15 editions of IPL have taken place and players have shown great level of fielding over the years. From boundary line catches to some stunning takes inside the circle, there is hardly any quality catch that would be missing in IPL.

"Only when IPL began, people really started focusing on fielding. Not every team had fielding coaches. There was enough time in 50-over matches. You had 3-4 good fielders and 6-7 guys didn't do great. But once IPL started, we saw growth in fielding. Since 2008, around 12-13 years have been amazing. Earlier, people spoke about fielding but there were only 3-4 good individuals. But now, as a team we have seen the growth of fielding go through the roof," said Rhodes.

Students Protest At Chennai Art Centre Over Sexual Harassment Charges

Around 200 students staged a protest on Thursday at Kalakshetra Foundation, a top arts and cultural academy in Chennai, demanding justice for the survivors of alleged sexual harassment by four male faculty members.

The students held placards saying "We want justice" and shouted slogans against the administration and the National Commission for Women (NCW), which they have accused of dismissing their complaints.

The protest came a day after NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma made an unscheduled visit to the Kalakshetra campus. She met with the director, Revathi Ramachandran, and some of the faculty members.

Students say she asked them to tell her in public, in the presence of students and faculty members about incidents of sexual harassment.

"She asked one by one, 'were you molested, were you molested'. Is that the way to do an enquiry? Their aim is to cover it up," a woman student said. A former student of the academy added, "This has been going on for years."

On what kind of harassment survivors faced, one student said, "It's sexual messaging, abuse if we resist, low grades are given and no dance opportunity no matter how good we are."

Another said, "Over the years many were sexually abused... remember we are talking about 18- or 19-year-old girls who can't dare to complain."

Ms Sharma had also earlier asked the state police chief C Sylendra Babu not to pursue the matter as the main complainant denied allegations of sexual harassment during questioning by the internal complaints committee of the institute.

Earlier this week, in a report, the body had claimed the allegations of sexual misconduct by the faculty members at Kalakshetra were "disinformation".

"None who is involved in any unsavoury activity will be spared," Ms Ramachandran said. She said the people facing allegations have been questioned and the board will consider taking action as per the law.

Kalakshetra Foundation, founded in 1936 by dancer Rukmini Devi Arundale, is an institute of national importance that offers courses in Bharatanatyam dance, Carnatic music and other traditional arts. It is known for its high standards of excellence and discipline, and has produced many eminent artists over the decades.

The sexual harassment scandal has shaken the institution and its alumni, who have expressed solidarity with the students and their dismay over the handling of the issue. Some prominent artists, such as singer TM Krishna, have also spoken out against Kalakshetra's response and called for a thorough investigation.

"As you know, no process of enquiry will be effective unless the atmosphere is caring and compassionate towards those who are alleging sexual abuse, in these cases, young students and alumni. When the place is so hierarchical, no one will speak freely and fearlessly," Mr Krishna said in a statement.

"My Last World Cup": Veteran India Star Banks On IPL For 'ODI Comeback'

Indian cricket team fast bowler Umesh Yadav has been a regular part of the Test sides, but his ODI appearances have been extremely sporadic recently. The pacer was included in the T20I squad for the 2022 series against Australia but played only one game. However, with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 around the corner, Umesh is determined to make a comeback in white-ball cricket with another stellar season with Kolkata Knight Riders as India will be hosting the ODI World Cup later in 2013.

“The ODI World Cup is played after every four years, and this can be my last opportunity to be a part of it. So, I need to do well in IPL and make a comeback in ODI format," Umesh told Aaj Tak in an interview.

“As I said the World Cup comes after every four years and I'm not sure if I'll be around then. Hence, I want to make this season count and not wait for another four years,” he added.

Umesh was one of the top performers for KKR in 2022 with 16 wickets from 12 matches.

The freshly-appointed interim captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Nitish Rana said that the leadership role is 'not new' to him as he has already been made battle-ready by his five years of affiliation with the IPL franchise and involvement as part of the leadership group.

Kolkata Knight Riders will start its IPL 2023 campaign against Punjab Kings on April 1 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.

"For me this is not new. I have been playing a leadership role in this franchise for a few years. It's just that the tag is of a captain this time. And if I take extra pressure over a tag, then my game can potentially get ruined. There is no real fear. Yes, when you do something new for the first time, there is some added pressure. But I have played almost 100 games, and one thing I know is that I thrive under pressure and I am embracing this new role," Rana told reporters in Kolkata in his first media interaction as captain.

Supreme Court Clears 5,000 Crores From SEBI-Sahara Fund To Repay Depositors

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed a plea by the Centre seeking allocation of Rs 5,000 crore out of Rs 24,000 crore deposited by the Sahara group with market regulator Sebi to repay dues of the depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies.

The direction came on an application filed by the Centre in a PIL by a person named Pinak Pani Mohanty, who sought a direction to pay the amount to the depositors who invested in several chit fund companies and Sahara credit firms.

A bench of justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar noted that the amount was lying in the "Sahara-SEBI Refund Account" unutilised.

The top court said the prayer sought in the present application seems to be reasonable and which shall be in the larger public interest and interest of the genuine depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies.

"Out of the total amount of Rs. 24,979.67 crore lying in the 'Sahara-SEBI Refund Account', Rs. 5000 crore be transferred to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, who, in turn, shall disburse the same against the legitimate dues of the depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies, which shall be paid to the genuine depositors in the most transparent manner and on proper identification," the bench said.

The top court also directed that entire disbursement process will be monitored by former top court judge R Subhash Reddy with the assistance of advocate Gaurav Agarwal, who has been appointed as amicus curiae to assist Justice Reddy as well as the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies.

"The manner and modalities for making the payment is to be worked out by the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies in consultation with Justice Reddy and Agarwal.

"Rs. 15 lakhs per month be paid to Justice R Subhash Reddy, Former Judge of this Court and Rs. five lakhs per month be paid to Gaurav Agarwal, learned Amicus Curiae towards their honorarium," the bench said.

The top court further directed that the amount be paid to the respective genuine depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies not later than nine months from today.

The balance amount thereafter will be again transferred to the Sahara-SEBI refund account, it said.

The Centre had sought money from the SEBI-Sahara Sahara-Sebi escrow account that was formed after the top court in August 2012 directed two Sahara firms -- Sahara India Real Estate Corporation Limited (SIRECL) and Sahara Housing India Corporation Limited (SHICL) -- to refund investors.

US Shooter Identified As Trans, Resented Going To Christian School: Cops

Video released on Tuesday showed Nashville, Tennessee, police officers storming a private Christian grade school on Monday before confronting and fatally shooting an attacker who killed three 9-year-old students and three adult staff members.

The six minutes of harrowing footage, edited together from the body-worn cameras of two responding officers and released by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, showed officers clearing several first-floor classrooms before heading upstairs to the second floor as gunfire is heard.

The officers run down a hallway - past what appears to be a victim lying on the ground - and into a lounge area, where the suspect is seen dropping to the floor after being shot.

Police have identified the shooter as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, a 28-year-old former student at the Covenant School. Investigators are examining what they called a "manifesto" that Hale left behind, hoping to learn what motivated the latest in a long string of U.S. mass shootings.

Monday's violence marked the 90th school shooting – defined as any incident in which a gun is discharged on school property – in the U.S. this year, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database, a website founded by researcher David Riedman. Last year saw 303 such incidents, the highest of any year in the database, which goes back to 1970.

During a previous press briefing, Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said Hale self-identified as transgender, although Drake offered no further clarity. Drake and other officials repeatedly referred to the suspect with female pronouns, though Hale used male pronouns on a LinkedIn page that listed recent jobs in graphic design and grocery delivery.

Drake said Hale had a detailed, hand-drawn map of the school showing various entry points, Drake said. Hale was armed with two assault-style weapons, one of them a rifle, as well as a 9mm pistol, authorities said.

Drake told NBC the manifesto indicated that Hale planned to carry out additional shootings at other locations. He said the Covenant School was singled out for attack but that the individual victims were targeted at random.

Investigators believe Hale harbored "some resentment for having to go to that school" as a child, Drake said without elaborating.

The three children were identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney. Also shot dead were Katherine Koonce, 60, the head of school; Mike Hill, 61, a school custodian; and Cynthia Peak, 61, a substitute teacher.

Scruggs' father, Chad, is a pastor at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, which is connected to the school. In a statement given to ABC News, he said the family was heartbroken.

"Through tears we trust that she is in the arms of Jesus who will raise her to life once again," the statement read.

'GET YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THE GUN!'

Nashville police began receiving calls about a shooter at 10:13 a.m., spokesperson Don Aaron told reporters. The suspect was pronounced dead by 10:27 a.m.

"The police department response was swift," Aaron said.

The body camera footage showed officers rapidly searching for the shooter, in contrast to videos showing officers in Uvalde, Texas, waiting inside Robb Elementary School for more than an hour last May as a gunman inside a classroom continued an attack that claimed the lives of 19 children and two adults.

In 2018, a number of officers responding to a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, remained outside the building rather than immediately pursuing the suspect, according to a state commission's investigation. Seventeen students and staff members died in that attack.

Both incidents prompted fresh scrutiny of police protocols for active shooters, which call for officers to engage the suspect at once to prevent loss of life.

The start of the Nashville police video shows an officer retrieving a rifle from his trunk as a staff member tells him that the school is locked down but that two children are unaccounted for.

"Let's go! I need three!" the officer yells as he uses a key to unlock a door and enter the building, where alarms can be heard ringing.

The video shows officers passing by bulletin boards and cubbies as they clear one room after another. When the officers reach the second floor, one says, "We've got one down," before they race down the hallway to confront the shooter.

Officer Rex Engelbert and Officer Michael Collazo - whose body cameras provided the footage - both fire several rounds at the suspect. The video shows the assailant still moving on the ground as another officer repeatedly yells, "Get your hands away from the gun!"

Police previously released surveillance footage showing the shooter arriving at the school and gaining entry by shooting through a glass door. The suspect is seen stalking through empty hallways as emergency lights flash, brandishing a rifle and entering rooms, seemingly looking for people.

The Covenant School, founded in 2001, serves about 200 students from preschool to sixth grade in the Green Hills neighborhood of Tennessee's state capital, according to the school's website.

Scientists Discover Supermassive Blackhole Pointing Directly At Earth

A team of international astronomers have reclassified a galaxy after finding that a supermassive black hole in its centre has changed direction and is now aiming towards the Earth. The galaxy in question is found 657 million light-years away from us and goes by the name of PBC J2333.9-2343.

"We started to study this galaxy as it showed peculiar properties. Our hypothesis was that the relativistic jet of its supermassive black hole had changed its direction, and to confirm that idea we had to carry out a lot of observations," said Dr Lorena Hernandez-Garcia, according to the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS)

In a study, the astronomers detailed the change. According to them, the galaxy was initially classified as a radio galaxy but scientists realised that the space phenomena had rotated 90 degrees and is now pointing its centre towards Earth.

This means that the galaxy is now a "blazar", which means a galaxy point which has jet points pointing at Earth. According to RAS, blazars are very high-energy objects and are considered to be one of the most powerful phenomena in the Universe.

Also Read | Experts Explain The Science Behind Why Heartbreak Hurts So Much

Astronomers said that the jet material from the black hole has created two huge lobes on either side of the galaxy, and they are the most immediately notable thing when observed with radio waves.

"The fact that we see the nucleus is not feeding the lobes anymore means that they are very old. They are the relics of past activity, whereas the structures located closer to the nucleus represent younger and active jets," Hernandez-Garcia said.

In the study, scientists said that they are currently unsure what sparked the change in direction, though some astronomers believe that PBC J2333.9-2343 collided with another galaxy, resulting in the shift of direction.

It is also not clear how the direction of the black hole will affect our galaxy.

Rahul Gandhi Will Need Civic Body's Clearance Before Vacating Bungalow

Disqualified Lok Sabha member Rahul Gandhi will require a no-objection certificate from the New Delhi Municipal Council before vacating his official bungalow, an official said on Monday.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), which looks after water and electricity supplies in these Central Public Works Department bungalows, has been marked a copy of the Lok Sabha Housing Committee's letter asking Mr Gandhi to vacate his accommodation.

"Our role is not related to property but civic amenities. We look into water and electricity supplies in the area… Before vacating the bungalow, Rahul Gandhi will need to take an NOC (no-objection certificate) from the NDMC," the civic official said.

Mr Gandhi was on Monday asked to vacate the government bungalow at 12, Tughlaq Lane by April 22 and follows his disqualification from the Lok Sabha last week.

A local court in Gujarat convicted Mr Gandhi in a criminal defamation case on March 23 and sentenced him to two years in jail. The two-year jail term triggered his disqualification as a Lok Sabha member from the date of the verdict.

The notification for Mr Gandhi to vacate the bungalow was marked to various departments, including the Directorate of Estates.

A senior official said a disqualified Lok Sabha member has to vacate the official bungalow within a month of losing his membership.

Sources said Gandhi can write to the Housing Committee seeking an extension, and the panel can take a decision depending on the validity of the reasons cited by him.

Johnny Depp Relocates To UK Following Defamation Trial Against Amber Heard

Actor Johnny Depp, who gained immense popularity during the highly publicised defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, has now moved to Somerset, in the United Kingdom. He stated that he prefers living a quiet life in the country, as per a report in the Independent, citing Somerset Life Magazine.

The Downton Abbey-like residence, Somerset Mansion, with its 12 bedrooms and eight baths spread across 850 acres, was bought by the 59-year-old actor for 13 million pounds in 2014.

"I just love places with character. I have various houses in various places and they all mean something special. I don't have them just to say I own them, I have them for use and because they are a bit special," he told the magazine.

He further said that "one of the many things I love about Britain" is that "everywhere you go there is history and buildings with great character."

The 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' star continued by saying that he can now enter stores "without being surrounded by people wanting selfies," which he doesn't mind "up to a point," but it might occasionally get "a little too crowded."

Mr Depp added, "British people are cool and will greet you as if you are a neighbour - without going over the top. I like going to places, seeing things and meeting people - but I'm not the great extrovert that people think."

"In truth, I'm quite a shy person," he continued. "That's one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be me - and that's nice," Mr Depp remarked.

In December, it was reported that Mr Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard settled their defamation case, with the actress agreeing to pay her former husband $1 million over claims he physically abused her. In a post on Instagram, Ms Heard said she was dropping an appeal against the $10 million payout she had been ordered to make by a jury because she "simply cannot go through" another trial.

"After a great deal of deliberation, I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case. I make this decision having lost faith in the American legal system, where my unprotected testimony served as entertainment and social media fodder," the Aquaman actress said.

Man Who Sheltered Amritpal Singh's Close Aide Arrested: Punjab Police

Punjab Police on Sunday arrested Balwant Singh, from Khanna city in Ludhiana district of Punjab, the man who had harboured Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh's close aide Tejinder Singh Gill.

Khanna Police said that they have arrested Balwant Singh, the one who harboured Amritpal Singh's close aide Tejinder Singh Gill.

"His questioning is underway," police said, adding that no connection between Amritpal Singh and Balwant Singh has been found yet.

Tejinder Singh Gill alias Gorkha Baba, the core team member of Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh, the Khanna Police on Friday released incriminating videos recovered from the mobile phone of Gorkha.

The chief of Waris Punjab De is still escaping the State police's dragnet. Amritpal Singh was declared a fugitive on the day, Punjab Police launched a crackdown against him and his pro-Khalistan outfit.

Punjab Police on Saturday appealed to people not to believe in rumours and fake news of the arrest of radical preacher Amritpal Singh, which is being circulated on social media.

Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Bathinda SSP Gulneet Khurana said, "We urge people not to believe the fake reports of the arrest of Amritpal Singh that are being widely circulated on social media."

He blamed the fake reports on "rumour mongers" based in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada.

"A few people sitting in the UK, US, and Canada are spreading false news on social media that Amritpal is being tortured (in custody)," the SSP added.

He added, "BSF companies along with police personnel and 140 security personnel from Bahadurgarh are currently deployed in Bathinda to ensure peace."

An alert was sounded in Uttarakhand over the possibility of radical preacher Amritpal Singh entering the state, informed Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V Murugesan on Saturday morning.

Murugesan added that he had received inputs from the Punjab Police that the pro-Khalistan leader, who fled Punjab in the wake of the crackdown on Waris Punjab De, may enter Uttarakhand from Haryana.

He told ANI that checks and searches are underway and a security alert has gone out in places through which he can enter the state.

The officer added that the district police have also been alerted and vigilance stepped up at the borders.

Tejinder Singh aka Gorkha Baba, a resident of Punjab's Mangewal village was arrested on Friday.

"Tejinder often lived with Amritpal and is involved in the Ajnala case as well. Gorkha Baba used to be Amritpal's gunman for a long time. He was also active on social media, and his pictures along with weapons used to surface on social media. After which a separate case was registered against Tejinder in Malaud police station", DSP Payal Harsimrat Singh told ANI.

The police informed that action has been taken against him under sections 107/151 of the Indian Penal Code (IPS).

"Two other people accompanying Tejinder have also been detained. They are being interrogated", added the DSP.

The DSP said that Tejinder had a history of criminal cases, ranging from fight to liquor smuggling, registered against him and he had also served a sentence in jail.

On Friday, an alert was issued in the Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand, amid reports of Amritpal trying to enter the state.

A team of Delhi Police and Punjab Police on Friday launched a search operation for Amritpal in Delhi and its border in view of the possibility of him entering the national capital.

However, Delhi Police later said Waris Punjab De chief may have left the national capital.

On March 18, Punjab Police launched an operation against Amritpal and his aides. The crackdown came almost over three weeks after Amritpal's supporters clashed with uniformed personnel at the Ajnala police station on February 23, on the outskirts of Amritsar, demanding the release of one of his close aides, Lovepreet Toofan.
